A total number of 730 days of child care leave can be availed during the entire service for upto the age of 18 years for two children.

Child Care Leave rules

Child care leave can also be granted to a single male parent who is an unmarried or a widower or a divorced employee.

Child care leave can be granted for the first 365 days at 100% pay and for the next 365 days at 80% pay.

For single female Government servants, child care leave may be allowed up to six times in a calendar year.

However, for other eligible government employees, it will continue to be given for a maximum of 3 times in a calendar year.

Child Care Leave cannot be sought as a matter of right. Under no circumstances can an employee go on Child Care Leave without proper prior approval of the leave by the leave sanctioning authority.

Child Care Leave should be treated as Earned Leave and it can be sanctioned accordingly whenever applied.

Consequently, Saturdays, Sundays, Gazetted Holidays etc. falling during the holiday period will also be counted for Child Care Leave as in the case of Earned Leave.
